Learn French Culture and Sustainability in the French Alps!

Led by French faculty member Jessica Thornton-Hoselton, the Department of French and Francophone Studies is excited to offer a summer study abroad program to Grenoble, France. The four week interdisciplinary program will offer students 6 UIC credits: 3 in French language and 3 in a French cultural course focused on sustainability initiatives in France. The program will conclude with a 2-day stay in Paris.

1) EcoVenture: Discover, Learn, Act- A Sustainability Journey

Our interdisciplinary course will involve experiential learning opportunities in Grenoble and Paris focused on zero-impact initiatives, sustainable urban design and development, and community-oriented policies.

Some of the hands-on experiences include a local farm visit, a zero-waste cooking class, a guided tour of an eco-neighborhood, and a service-learning activity to promote eco-friendly study abroad.

2) French Language

The French language courses are taught by our host institution, l’Université de Grenoble – Centre Universitaire d’Études.

Upon taking a placement test for the appropriate course level, you will be able to either begin learning French or continue improving your language skills. Novices welcome!
