Alumni Appreciation Day at the Field Museum in Chicago

On Saturday, August 24, thanks to the generous support of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Department of French and Francophone Studies held its first Alumni Appreciation Day at the Field Museum in Chicago. The event was organized around the successful exhibit "Scenes from the Stone Age: The Cave Paintings of Lascaux." Guests attended a docent lecture before touring the exhibit, which features a true-to-life reproduction of never-before-seen parts of the Lascaux caves in southwestern France. We were able to view paintings created 20,000 years ago as well as artifacts from the period and interactive displays documenting the caves' discovery and preservation. At noon, we reconvened for lunch in one of the museum's lecture halls. It was wonderful to see so many of our graduates and their friends, and we hope that this will be the first of many outings and events in the future, so if you weren't able to join us, stay tuned!
