In a partnership with the LCLC, many of our BLP classes have Learning Language Assistants to help you learn French. There is also free drop-in French peer tutoring nearly every day of the week.

Don't stop at French 104! There's plenty you can do to continue. Take a 200-level course, apply to become a paid LLA or peer tutor, or simply attend one of our many fun cultural events that UIC French has to offer.

Bienvenue !

Our warm and inclusive introductory French language classes at UIC are designed to give you personalized attention and feedback as you work towards your goals.

If you have taken French before (junior high, high school, college), or have lived in a French-speaking area, or with French-speaking family:
Take the UIC French Placement Test. Your results will place you in 101, 102, 103, 104, or could fulfill the LAS Foreign Language Requirement if you have a strong background in French.

If you’re completely new to French:
Register for French 101!

 

After French 104, you can continue to be a French Peer Tutor, and take 200-level classes towards a French minor or major, or Teaching of French major.

In the first four semesters of French at UIC, you’ll explore France and the 29 other countries in the French-speaking world, from Haïti to Cameroon, from Belgium to Québec, Canada. You’ll practice speaking, reading, writing, and understanding others speaking French.
