CANCELLED – In the Wake of Medea: Tragedy and the Art of Destruction
March 4, 2020
3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Why do we condemn most kinds of violence and yet repeatedly represent atrocities, bloodshed and spectacular brutality in literature and arts of forms? I turn to one such form, tragedy, to suggest how we might think differently about aesthetic representations of violence. My research concerns mainly 17th-century France, but this talk offers a more general intervention into politics, feminist thought, drama, and the tragic form.
